Which laboratory instruments and equipment do not need to be calibrated?

In the laboratory, which instruments and equipment do not require calibration?

1.Criteria for judging equipment that does not require calibration

Not all equipment needs to be calibrated.

Criteria for judging equipment that does not need calibration:

(1) Determine the use of the equipment;

For example, some auxiliary equipment does not require calibration, such as crushers.

(2) The degree of influence on the results when the equipment is applied to different measurement methods;

For example, the ambient temperature has little effect on the results of the lubricating oil viscosity test, and the thermometer monitoring the room temperature does not need to be calibrated.

(3) The contribution of equipment calibration to the overall uncertainty of the measurement results;

For example, equipment with a contribution value of less than 10% to the uncertainty of the result does not need to be calibrated.

(4) Whether it is a device for direct measurement and viewing of data results;

For example, a magnifying glass used in the laboratory does not need to be calibrated.

2.Code Provisions:

6.4.6 of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 stipulates:

Measuring equipment should be calibrated in the following cases:

- When measurement accuracy or measurement uncertainty will affect the validity of the report results; and/or

- to establish metrological traceability of report results,calibration of equipment is required.

4.4.3 of RB/T 214-2017 stipulates:

The equipment that the accuracy and validity of the results of British standard inspection and testing and sampling results have an impact on, or that has requirements for metrological traceability, including auxiliary measuring equipment used to measure environmental conditions, are subject to planned verification or calibration.
